The Christ Redeemer statue, visited by 600,000 tourists per year, is located in the city of Rio de Janeiro, 709 meters above sea level, on the Corcovado Mountain. It is 130 feet tall, including its 31 feet pedestal. It was opened on Oct. 12, 1931, after nearly five years of work.

On July 7th 2007, Christ the Redeemer was voted one of the new Seven Wonders of the World.

This tour includes the visit to the Tijuca National Park and Santa Theresa Quarter and its aqueduct, known as Arcos da Lapa, the most important and useful work done by the Portuguese during the colonial period.

The Botanical Garden is one of the ten most important of its kind in the world, a true ecological and wildlife sanctuary. It was designed by Dom João VI in 1808 and founded by order of the Prince Regent John VI with the purpose of acclimating plants brought from the East Indies, but one of the first plants to arrive was the Palma Mater, one of the three oldest Imperial Garden palms.

The garden has wild birds, a fine collection of Victorian water lilies, several species of flora from different countries, such as the Japanese plants, and the Amazonian tropical species, including 5000 varieties of plants demonstrating the rich botanic diversity of Brazil.

Calm and serene on weekdays the Botanical Garden blooms with families and music on weekends. It is a great place for leisure and to contemplate nature, where plants of artistic, archaeological and historical importance show the diversity of flora and facts related to the history of Rio de Janeiro.

NATURAL SPA

Trail walking and swimming  – CAD 40.00 per person

Welcome to Natural Spa Ilha Grande! There’s nothing cozier than arriving in a small village such as Abraão and feeling immersed in its exuberant nature… The eco-tour is within the Abraão Circuit. The first stop is the Visitor´s Center of Ilha Grande´s State Park which displays photos and information of the main attractions of the island and has a scaled island model. Once inside the park we can contemplate the beautiful panoramic view of Abraão Bay with its colorful wooden boats. Then we continue the walk to the fresh water natural pool, and with just a few more steps you can enjoy a refreshing massage at a mini natural waterfall. During the ecological walk, we can observe different species of local flora and fauna. Next stop, the historical monument Aqueduct. Built in 1893, 125m in length, it has huge pillars constructed only of granite, sand and whale oil. After the aqueduct, explore the area around the historical Lazaretto, which was a place of quarantine for immigrants (1886-1908) and then converted into a prison by 1913. The tour ends with an energizing swim in the sea, and you might want to nurture yourself by rubbing Praia Preta´s fine, black sand on your skin. It feels great!Duration: 2-3 hours

PURE NATURE

The tour starts at Abraão* on an ecological trail through the Atlantic Forest, observing the well preserved local flora and fauna. Stops along the way include a panoramic view of Abraão and Palmas bays. Continuing walking through the Aroeira path to Lopes Mendes Beach (ranked as one of the 10 most beautiful beaches of Brazil by Vogue magazine), your experienced guide will provide you with a brief introduction to snorkeling, such as the use of the mask with snorkel, breathing and flotation techniques. Let your guide lead you into the warm and crystal clear waters while identifying the various marine species of turtles, squid, rays, starfish, coral and multicolored tropical fish in their natural habitat. Then, just relax and enjoy the afternoon sun on the 4km (3mi) long white sandy beach. Back to the village of Abraão by classic wooden boat.

INTO THE FOREST 

Trekking

Choose one of the beautiful trails and delight yourself on an ecological walk into the forest, hearing the sounds of nature. Open your senses admiring the lush Atlantic Forest, one of the most diverse and endangered biomes on the planet.
Choose one of the wonderful trails: • Parrot´s Peak (T13): the second highest peak of the island, 959m high. It´s the symbol of Ilha Grande. From its summit is a spectacular scenery: Beaches and coves of the region, dozens of islands, Angra dos Reis, Mangaratiba, Marambaia Restinga. On a clear, blue day, you can see Ilhabela, SP; Pedra da Gávea, RJ; and the “Finger of God” in Teresopólis.

– Trail 13 = 6h (Abraão-Parrot’s Peak, 8km round trip)
– Trail 14 = 5h (Abraão-Dois Rios, 16km round trip)

• Dois Rios Beach (T14): One of the most beautiful beaches of the island, with 1.3 km of white sand, a clear, turquoise sea, and a river on each side. In the past, this location was chosen to establish the Candido Mendes Penal Colony, and the ruins remain to today.

• Caxadaço Beach (T14 + T15): An old “paved stone road” made by slaves connects Caxadaço with Dois Rios. Trek to an uninhabited beach with rocky shores hidden deeply amongst the forest. Once there, dive into an ancient pirates cove and discover the undewater treasures.

CULTURE DAY 

A day of eco-cultural activities                         CAD 10.00 per person

Rain, rain, go away, and come again another day! Here on the island, we don’t let a little (or a lot) of rain get in the way of good, cultural fun. Come with us on a tour to meet various local characters of the island including a real “caiçara”, and learn about their way of living… interact with them and your guide. Learn how to make eco-soap at Palma’s (the gregarious nature lover and owner of the island’s only newspaper). Hear the stories of the island recanted by an island´s native writer Neuseli Cardoso, author of the book “Where I left my Heart” the last stories of caiçaras. Or learn about the local flora and fauna biodiverity from the uniquely hand-built, open-aired stone home of Mauri. Other possibilities may include planting a tree or experiencing Capoeira (Afro-Brazilian art form that combines elements of martial arts, music, and dance) with the Professor Adriano.
