Jericoacoara is a National Park located 300 km west of Fortaleza. This village became famous for being one of the most beautiful and long beach in the world, surrounded by dunes and freshwater lakes.
The village has no street lights, to preserve the illumination from the moon and stars, the streets are sandy and there is no road access for the last 15 miles, so you will need to get there with a 4×4 vehicle.
Still, you can find almost everything you want in Jericoacora, from massages to delicious dinners, from quiet bars to live music ones, and excellent hotels for all tastes.
Located 158 km from Fortaleza city and 3 km from Canoa Quebrada beach, its natural beauty served as backdrop for several national films. The beach of Quixaba with its beautiful white and red sandy cliffs is visited by families and is a good destination for those looking for tranquility and beautiful scenery.
Being a fishing village it is a perfect place to find the best shrimp and fresh fish from the region with the best prices.
Quixaba has no sophisticated hotels and restaurants, except for the restaurant attached to the Pousada Dona Lucia, where besides good fish, you can eat a wonderful duck. The best tents on the beach are the Chaguinha and Velho Marujo (Old Sailor).
Just 155 km east of Fortaleza, Canoa Quebrada has a stable climate between 27 º C and 30 º C (80º F to 86º F) throughout the year and beaches with magnificent palm trees, cliffs and lagoons between huge sand dunes.
The winds from the east up to 30 knots with calm waters are perfect for practicing and learning kitesurfing and for a catamaran trip. For the adventurous it has buggy and ATV’s rides, horseback riding and, if you want to get a bit of Brazilian culture, you can take capoeira classes.
A Broadway street (main street of Canoa Quebrada) is point and address of the majority of bars, nightclubs and restaurants in the village, where you can enjoy the regional cuisine and the famous “house trio”, a dish with lobster, shrimp and fish, big enough for three people.
There are 30 thousand square meters of area to experience art and culture, with attractions like the Memorial Cearense Culture, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Theater of the Sea Dragon, the movie theaters Cine Sea Dragon, the Amphitheatre Sérgio Mota, an Auditorium and Planetarium.
The Sea Dragon has most of its programme for free or a symbolic price, with the goal of having audience in different artistic languages.
The architecture of the Sea Dragon Centre is characterized by its bold lines, designed by Brazilian architects Delberg Ponce de Leon and Fausto Nile. Built in an old port area, the center of the Sea Dragon has in its surrounding bars, restaurants, craft shops and theaters.

Clean and beautiful it houses along its boardwalk several stalls offering fresh water showers, beach chairs and delicious regional cuisine. The best known are those of the Crab Chico, frequented by lovers of the crustacean; Vira Verão, which gathers the young athletes; Itapariká, with Children’s playground; Cabumba, GLS point and Crocobeach with the famous buffet of the region. Complete the picture the fluffy and clear sands, strong waves and dunes.
On Thursday nights, in particular, has shows of forró, humor, and festivals.
[/gn_spoiler] [gn_spoiler title=”Metropolitan Cathedral” open=”0″ style=”2″]The Metropolitan Cathedral is a historical monument that is located in downtown Fortaleza and which stands out for its architectural magnificence, beautiful stained glass windows and the Gothic Roman style.
The cathedral was inaugurated in 1978, after spending nearly forty years of construction and is the third largest in Brazil with a capacity to house 5,000 people.

[/gn_spoiler] [gn_spoiler title=”Craft Market Center” open=”0″ style=”2″]Located in the former Public Jail, the market offers, where the old cells were, over a hundred crafts shops, and two museums: the Minerals and Art and Popular Culture.
[/gn_spoiler] [gn_spoiler title=”Fort Nossa Senhora de Assuncao” open=”0″ style=”2″]The Fortress of Our Lady of the Assumption is where history began in Fortaleza, the city name is a reference to this ancient fortification.
The area open to visitors is limited, since most of the Fort is now occupied by Army installations. The visits to the outdoors, and a small military museum on the premises of the fort, are allowed.
You should talk to the soldier at the entrance of the gate, who will explain briefly the places that can be seen, as well as its history.
The fort is situated a few meters away from the Cathedral and Craft Market Center.
